Simon (Mr Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport), Rocky (Dr Rocky Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberport), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon! It is my great pleasure to join the closing ceremony of the Third Generation Internet (Web 3.0) Internship Programme. First of all, I would like to thank Cyberport and all participating companies for their efforts made and support to this internship programme, which provides a life-changing and eye-opening opportunity for local, the Mainland and international students to gain solid work experience in the Web 3.0 area.

The Government has been actively promoting the application of advanced technologies, including Web3.0, artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, etc. Web 3.0 is not just a buzzword, it is a paradigm shift that is transforming the digital world. To embrace the megatrend of Web3.0 development, the Government has set up the Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development, which brings together leaders and professionals from relevant sectors in promoting the development of Web 3.0 in Hong Kong in a sustainable manner. The Task Force would strike a delicate balance between appropriate regulation and the vibrant development of Web3.0 ecosystem, as well as to address on issues related to infrastructure, talent and training, education and promotion.

The Government has allocated $50 million to Cyberport to expedite the Web 3.0 ecosystem development, enabling the industry and enterprises to better grasp frontier development and to promote cross-sectoral business cooperation, as well as arranging a wide array of training for young people. As a metropolis placing much emphasis on innovation and technology (I&T) and our aim to transform Hong Kong into an international I&T hub, we will grasp every opportunity presented by the trend of Web 3.0 in advancing the I&T and economic development of Hong Kong.

Over the past few weeks, I believe all students here have embarked on an incredible journey, immersing yourselves in the dynamic and rapidly evolving world of Web 3.0, and have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, gain practical experience in cutting-edge technologies, and contribute to the development of different kinds of projects. Your participation in the internship has placed you at the forefront of this technological reform, equipping you with the knowledge, tools, experience and mindset to drive future innovation and applications in Web 3.0.

As you will soon be continuing your pursuit in study or career, I encourage you to remember the invaluable experience during the past two months. Not just the knowledge and experience gained but also the networking you established, would serve as a solid foundation on which you will continue to grow and thrive in your career.

The road to innovation and technological reform is not easy. It requires close collaboration among the Government, private and public organisations, and young people to bring in new ideas and applications. The field of Web 3.0 is vast and ever evolving, so let’s stay curious, remain adaptable, and learn continuously. Countless opportunities are waiting for us to explore and create.

Lastly, I wish you all the best of health and continue to flourish in the Web 3.0 area or other endeavors you would pursue in the years to come. Thank you very much.
