Accelerating A.I. Innovation: Second Cohort of GenA.I. Sandbox

Digital Government

The second cohort of the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenA.I.) Sandbox initiative by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has marked a major leap forward in exploring A.I. adoption.

From early experiments to exploring adoption

Building on the first cohort launched in early 2025, the second cohort of the GenA.I. Sandbox demonstrates an industry shift from experimenting capability to further enabling secure and reliable implementation.

The GenA.I. Sandbox Collaboratory is a key addition to the second cohort. It is a platform that provides practical workshops that help banks engage with technology providers early, facilitating the conversion from problem statements to Sandbox trials. A dedicated workshop on combatting deepfake attacks with A.I. convened experts from tech firms, digital banks and small and medium-sized banks to share actionable solutions and innovative tools.

Diverse representation and use cases

27 use cases from 20 banks and 14 technology partners have been selected for the second cohort, with a diverse representation of banks, signaling a growth in collaboration across sectors. They focus on use cases that can enhance customer experience, risk management and anti-fraud control.

A defining theme of the cohort is the proactive approach to A.I. governance, including “A.I. vs. A.I.” use cases, such as leveraging A.I. to conduct automated quality checks on A.I.-generated outputs. Other use cases include adversarial simulations using A.I. to stress-test systems against sophisticated digital fraud.

Participants have onboarded to a dedicated platform hosted in Cyberport’s Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Centre, with trials commenced in early 2026. Using the Sandbox as the core, HKMA will further promote the responsible adoption of A.I. within Hong Kong’s financial sector.
